Aarhus is not Copenhagen — and that's precisely the point. While the capital dominates headlines, Aarhus has quietly built one of Scandinavia's most concentrated craft beer scenes. The city's compact centre means you can walk between 10 excellent bars in a single afternoon, from Vestergade's neighbourhood gems to Jægergårdsgade's Mikkeller outpost.
The scene spans everything from bottle shops and jazz bars to 30-tap halls and brewery taprooms. Dry & Bitter's Fermentoren taproom anchors the Latin Quarter alongside ÅBEN and Mig og Ølsnedkeren. And Stepping Stone Brewing — named Danish Brewery of the Year 2024 — has put Aarhus on the international radar.
Award-winning Danish craft brewery based in Aarhus. Known for hop-forward, barrel-aged and mixed-fermentation beers, and for founding the Aarhus Together festival — the most-talked-about beer event in Denmark. Their flagship Hazy IPA "Niaz" is one of the most-rated Danish beers on Untappd.
🥇 brewery of the year 2024 🍺 hazy ipa · barrel-aged · sourThe official taproom of Dry & Bitter brewery — Aarhus's most acclaimed craft producer. 22 taps dominated by their own IPAs and experimental sours. Dimly lit, poster-covered walls, beer-geek staff who actually know what's in the tank.
One of Aarhus's best-loved craft bars, with 24 rotating taps covering Danish and international breweries. Food available — great for a full evening in the Latin Quarter.

The highest tap count in the city: 30 taps inside the Aarhus Street Food market. Pair your beer with food from the surrounding stalls. Lively every night, best during the week if you want to actually hear your friends.
The Aarhus outpost of Copenhagen's legendary Mikkeller. Twenty rotating taps of their experimental line-up in a carefully designed space. A global name, a local presence.
A neighbourhood bar with a good craft selection — and a conscience. Non-profit model: volunteer bartenders, proceeds go to humanitarian projects. Regular concerts and cultural events. Drinking well and doing good.
Twenty-five taps in a cosy neighbourhood setting on Vestergade. Beer-only — no food — which keeps the focus firmly on what's in the glass.
Down by the harbour with 21 taps and food — a relaxed spot to end a waterfront walk with a well-chosen beer and a plate of something good.
21+ craft taps and a serious whisky list side by side. If your group can't agree on beer or spirits, this solves the problem.
Live jazz and 10 curated taps. Smaller selection, but the atmosphere is worth the detour — especially on evenings with a live set.
Historic brewpub steps from the cathedral. House-brewed Danish lagers and ales — the oldest craft brewing address in the city, est. 1857.
Curated bottle shop on Vestergade — specialist Danish and Nordic craft to take home or drink on the spot.
Neighbourhood bottle shop and café north of the centre. Worth the trip for unusual imports and local rarities.
Denmark's most talked-about craft beer festival. Organised by Stepping Stone Brewing at Godsbanen cultural centre — hop-forward, barrel-aged and mixed-fermentation beers from top Danish and international breweries. Debuted in 2025 and quickly became a city fixture. A must if you're visiting Aarhus in October.
